Watch this video to find out what happens! This video deals with “sublimation”. Sublimation is the process by which a substance goes directly from a solid to a gas. This particular video deals with the sublimation of dry ice. It’s an exciting way to introduce this topic (phenomenon) to your students! You may be wondering, where in the world do I get dry ice?! It can generally be found at most grocery stores in a special freezer at the front. Ask a cashier, they should be able to help you. Make sure to bring a cooler with you to store it in.

Materials:
Latex / Non-Latex Disposable Gloves
Dry Ice In a Cooler
Hammer to Break up the Dry Ice
Towel to place the Dry Ice in when breaking it up
Gloves or Tongs for Handling the Dry Ice
Water in a Pourable Container
Safety Glasses
When handling dry ice for a science lab, make sure to use caution. If you are planning to handle the dry ice for more than 2-3 seconds or put pressure on it, use tongs or thick gloves such as snow gloves or an oven mitt. Always wear safety glasses. Read the label on the dry ice for more safety instructions and warnings.
